At an elevation of 3000 meters, Gangotri is considered to be one of the most illustrious Hindu pilgrimages. According to Hindu mythology, this is the place where Ganga descended from the locks of Lord Shiva. The river Ganges has its origin from Gomukh, a place in the Gangotri Glacier, 15 km away from Gangotri. How To Reach :

By Air: 

The nearest airport is the Jolly Grant Airport, which is roughly 260 km away from Gangotri. From the airport vicinity itself, taxi or bus services are available. Chopper services are available from Dehradun.

By Rail:

The nearest Railway station is Hrishikesh, which is almost 230 km away. Hrishikesh is well connected with other railway stations in India, with frequent trains running in between. From the railway station, bus services are available as well as the private taxi services.

By Road:

Gangotri is well connected with other major cities in the state of Uttarakhand. From Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Rishikesh and other places, Gangotri can be reached by availing a bus, taxi or motorcycles. The NH108 is motorable and there are no issues, except for in the winter.
